PROGRAMS FOR SENIORS

Whether it is a home-delivered meal, Medicare assistance, community referrals, or a listing of volunteer opportunities, Senior Citizen Resources works closely with all of our seniors to ensure we continually provide the services and support they need. Most of the following programs are provided on a free-will donation basis.

Home-Delivered Meals

For seniors 60 and older recovering from surgery or just unable to leave the house, we deliver hot meals right to their door (see current menus listed above) as part of the Meals on Wheels America program.  Our dedicated team of volunteers delivers more than 100 meals five days a week to Old Brooklyn-area residents. To learn if you are eligible to receive meal delivery, please call Chris in our Social Services Department at 216-749-5367.

We are always looking for a few more volunteers to help out with this vital program. It’s a great way to take part in some purposeful volunteering and connect with your community – and only requires about a ONE HOUR commitment, once a week! We need volunteers that can pick up the packaged meals at SCR, deliver them to along a pre-determined route to seniors in the neighborhood, then return the insulated meal delivery bags back to our center. Our meal volunteers usually help out weekdays between about 10 – 11:30 a.m. If interested in more information on volunteering, please contact us: 216-749-5367.

Congregate Meals

Here at our center, we serve about 65 nutritional hot lunches five days a week, to our local seniors 60 and older. Our menus are posted above, and also published in our monthly newsletter. A $1 free-will donation is requested per meal, but no one is ever turned away due to their inability to make a donation.  Come make new friends while you enjoy a nutritious, hot meal, Monday - Friday!  Lunch is served at SCR at 12 noon; if you would like to come dine with us, please call ahead and make your reservation one week in advance by calling 216-749-5367.

TRANSPORTATION

Our staff of friendly drivers provide Old Brooklyn seniors with transportation to medical and dental appointments, shopping trips, pharmacies, hair appointments, and other important errands. We have four vans, including two with wheelchair accessibility, that will drive seniors where they need to go locally. If you are an Old Brooklyn resident 60 years or older, please call 216-749-5367 to schedule a ride (must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance).

SOCIAL SERVICES

Our Social Services department is an excellent resource for information about senior service programs. We can link seniors to government assistance programs and home care agencies, provide referrals to Medicare and insurance assistance, and offer information about other available benefits and resources.  In addition, we administer the home-delivered meals program for our home-bound seniors.   We also host many educational health and wellness speakers, sponsor Wellness Fairs, offer health screenings and clinics, and provide blood pressure testing through Cleveland EMS.  Please call Chris at 216-749-5367 for more information on available social services.

VOLUNTEER PLACEMENT

We have an excellent volunteer program - our volunteers contribute an average of 30,000 hours per year to community and social service agencies.  Our biggest volunteer opportunity is our home-delivered meal program (Meals on Wheels), which uses 65 volunteers alone.  Looking to make a difference in someone's life?  Or perhaps you would like to just be active in your community? We can get you started making a difference right away. Call for more information at 216-749-5367.
